A charge of intentional murder against Nancy Wanijiru Kinuthia, 40, was bound over to a Jefferson County jury by District Judge Sheldon Watkins after the preliminary hearing. Birmingham police had to break in to an apartment in the 200 block of 21st Avenue South before finding a bloody crime scene and Ruth Wawira Munene lying on her bedroom floor, testified Jerry Williams, a Birmingham police detective.
Police were called to the apartment June 11 by friends of the victim, after they were unable to reach her, testified Williams, the sole witness in Thursday's hearing.
They found a large blood-stained knife by the kitchen sink, where someone had apparently tried to wash it off, Williams testified. Kinuthia was taken into custody June 15 in Muscle Shoals. In a statement to police, Kinuthia said the stabbing was related to her health problem. "She said she was angry and upset, and when she and Ruth got to talking, she just lost it," Williams told defense lawyer Stephen Mahon
